South End Community Addresses Racism in Youth Sports

Last November (2024), SYSA soccer coaches from Beacon Hill, McGilvra, and Mt Baker formed a support group to talk about racism that youth soccer players experience on the pitch. They decided to celebrate diversity by hosting a turkey tournament for their 5 teams. They spent the day at Jefferson Playfield with games, food, and a fun shootout.

The SYSA Southend community is proud of our kids and coaches for providing us with a heart-warming example of addressing racism in our local soccer community.  We envision this to be the first annual!
